ECO2 COP30 International Schools Conference

ECO2 COP30

Since 2021, when COP26 was held in Glasgow, thousands of pupils from schools around the world have taken part in our annual ECO2 COP International Schools Conferences.

This year’s COP30 summit took place in Belém, Brazil in November 2025 with a key focus on “uniting for our forests.” To reflect this, our conferences focused on the importance of creating and protecting trees and forests around the world, and their role in helping combat climate change. As in previous conferences, pupils got the opportunity to ask questions to our expert panel, share their thoughts and feelings and hear an update on how the COP30 talks were progressing from a climate scientist.

To help pupils prepare for the conferences, we provided three lessons for teachers to work through with their class.

Students enjoyed asking questions to the panel of experts from Durham University and Durham County Council and voting in polls to share their thoughts about climate change, deforestation and the importance of forests. Students also shared their own pledges of action against climate change:

  • “We pledge to eat our wonderful local produce here in Barcelona to be more sustainable.” Oak House School, Spain
  • “We pledge to recycle paper, plastic etc.” Nehru World School, India
  • “We pledge to plant more trees” Blessed John Duckett, UK
  • “We pledge to remember to turn the lights off and to not harm the trees in our school” Prince Mead’s School, UK
  • “I pledge that I will grow more trees and try not to waste paper” Jamnabai Narsee School, India
  • We pledge to speak to the Headteacher about planting more trees around our school grounds.” Framwellgate Moor Primary, UK

All of the questions that the panel were not able to answer live, were answered and posted on the ECO2 Smart Schools website.

Two of the conferences are available to view on the OASES YouTube channel.
