ECO2 COP29 Schools Climate Conference

ECO2 COP29 Schools Climate Conference

Since 2021, when COP26 was held in Glasgow, thousands of pupils from schools around the world have taken part in our annual ECO2 COP Schools Virtual Climate Conferences.

Last year, 100 schools from 16 countries, including the UK, UAE, and India took part in the ECO2 COP28 Schools Climate Conference in December.

This year’s conference is set to be better than ever and we hope you can join us for one of this year’s conference sessions on November 13th and 14th.

This year’s COP29 summit will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan in November with this year’s talks likely to focus on money and paying for climate change and the energy transition.

To reflect this, our conferences will also focus on the challenges of climate justice and ensuring no-one is left behind in the transition to renewable technologies. As usual, pupils will get the opportunity to ask questions to our expert panel with staff and students from Durham University, and energy experts from Durham County Council. We will also have an update on how the COP29 talks are progressing, from climate scientist professor Chris Stokes, from Baku.

To help pupils prepare for the conferences, free, online resources are available. These materials will reflect the likely focus of this year’s COP talks: money. Three lessons are available for each age group (ages 7 – 9, ages 9 – 11, ages 11+):

  • Lesson1: Climate Change and Energy
  • Lesson 2: Climate Justice
  • Lesson 3: Who Will Pay for Climate Change?
The resources can be downloaded at the links at the bottom of this page.
