Sedgefield Primary

Sedgefield Primary’s Energy Officer Hannah worked with the Eco Council to conduct a school audit to understand which areas the school needed to improve on to save energy. After discussing some ideas as a group, we introduced monitoring cards and assigned each member of the eco council a classroom to monitor weekly. The cards act as a reminder for children and staff to turn off electrical items when they are not needed. If any items are left on when not needed the class is given the red card with the items written on with a whiteboard pen. However, if everything is turned off the class are given a green card as a well done. This helps to change behaviours and reduce electricity consumption.

The Eco Council also delivered an assembly to the whole school to inform everyone about climate change and how they, as a school, can help. Ideas shared were turning off lights when it sunny and turning off computers and iPads when they are finished being used.

Hard Earned Results

Since working with the school the Eco Council have been hard at work and, along with the rest of the school, been changing their behaviours. This has resulted in a reduction in their electricity consumption each month.
