Seaham Trinity Primary School
Seaham Trinity Primary School
Since 2018 pupils at Seaham Trinity Primary School have been learning in a school powered by the sun! In 2018 the school had 180 solar panels installed on its roof, by Solar for Schools, helping to generate clean, renewable energy every day.
The project has given pupils a real-life example of how renewable energy works and how small actions can help tackle climate change. Children have taken part in class sessions with an OASES Energy Officer, on behalf of Solar for Schools, where they have been excited to learn how the panels turn sunlight into electricity and how this helps reduce the school’s carbon footprint and tackles climate change.
Pupils also had the opportunity to use our energy solar kits to create their own electricity using the sun for a real hands on demonstration.
The solar panels are also helping to save money on energy bills, meaning more funds can be used to support learning and activities. Pupils feel proud knowing their school is taking action for the planet and leading by example in the community.
