Laurel Avenue Community School

Laurel Avenue Community School

Laurel Avenue Community School had a lot of scope to bring down their electricity consumption, especially outside core hours where they were still using lots of electricity.

To help reduce their consumption their OASES Energy Officer Dyfan came in to work with the school’s Eco Club over 3 sessions. In the first session, the Eco Club learned all about energy and how their energy use in school can contribute to climate change due to the use of fossil fuels in creating the electricity they use.

In their next session the students had a lot of fun completing an energy audit of the school to find opportunities to save energy, and also label light switches with coloured stickers to give guidance on if they can be left on or not.

In their last session the students planned a whole school assembly to share their learnings and actions with everyone and explored ways of making renewable energy using our amazing renewable energy kits.

Reduced Consumption

The Eco Club then delivered their assembly to the whole school sharing what they have been learning about and how everyone in their school can help fight the climate crisis by changing their behaviours and reducing their use of electricity. The Eco Club were very enthused by the project and finding solutions to climate crisis. In the 3 months since the sessions started in January 2023, the school has reduced its monthly electricity consumption by an average of 3%.
