Esh Winning Primary School

Esh Winning Primary School

Esh Winning Primary School worked with their OASES Energy Officer to reduce their electricity use. They used the Earth Hour Campaign to raise awareness of energy saving across the school.

Their Energy Officer worked with a group of pupils, who became Earth Hour Champions! The pupils learnt about the different types of energy, and even used a dynamic model wind turbine kit to learn more about how renewable energy works. The pupils then learnt about the impact that using energy has on the environment, and why it is important to save energy.

With support from their OASES Energy Officer, the Earth Hour Champions planned a switch off and spread the word about Earth Hour and energy saving across the school.

Earth Hour Switch Off

On Friday 23rd March 2018, Esh Winning Primary School switched off all their electrical equipment between 1:15pm and 2:15pm. Pupils and staff, led by the Earth Hour Champions, were hard at work during this hour to make sure electrical equipment was switched off across the school! This can be clearly seen in the electricity consumption graph, where there is a substantial drop in electricity usage between 1:15pm and 2:15pm.

The school really enjoyed running their Earth Hour Switch Off and after seeing the significant savings they made, they are continuing to work with their OASES Energy Officer to become more energy efficient.
